Geneva Kent, BA, CD-PIC, CLC, CLS, CPSTHi, there! I'm Geneva, the owner and operator of Buttercup Bee Doula & Lactation Services. I have noticed a gap in care that many parents experience – especially during the postpartum period – and love walking alongside families during early parenthood. But I have a special interest in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (such as Postpartum Depression) and infant feeding support.
I live in Knoxville, TN and I have three kids (ages 16, 14, and 11). I have a Bachelor's degree in Counseling with a Minor in Cross-Cultural Studies. I'm also a Certified Lactation Counselor and Certified Lactation Specialist. I am certified in Infant, Child, and Adult CPR and First Aid. I am also a Certified Child Passenger Technician. Before choosing to be a stay-at-home mom in 2008, I was a mental health professional, then a nanny. I have enjoyed working as a Postpartum Doula since 2012 and worked briefly as a Birth Doula in 2014. I trained as a Birth Doula through DONA International and am certified as a Postpartum & Infant Care Doula through ProDoula. I'm always learning and have done extensive studies on pregnancy, labor/birth, breastfeeding, newborn care, and maternal mental health. I've undergone professional training for both childbirth and breastfeeding (including a 52-hour lactation course and another 45 hour lactation course). I completed the PSI Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorder training and attended a training by Penny Simkin on working with survivors of sexual abuse. I also helped found and facilitate a Postpartum Mood & Anxiety Disorder support group. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, anti-racist, and Neurodivergent affirming. |
